A Message from the "R"

We’re ready!!! What an awesome team of God’s servants we have for E-187 – they will be a blessing to all of the pilgrims. And we know that God is gonna show up and show off!!

The theme of the weekend is Let Your Light Shine.

It has been on my heart for a while after hearing the Francis of Assisi quote "Preach the gospel and, if necessary, use words". We really need to let our light shine for God so that other people can see God IN us.

The weekend verse is Matt. 5:16 - "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.". Jesus has just 'delivered' the Beatitudes and goes on to encourage us to show our love for Him. Leading up to this He says "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

And I love the Message translation... "Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven."

The weekend song Shine by Collective Soul. It's really a secular song but, as with a lot of secular songs, they can be used as a worship song with just a few changes to the lyrics. I believe that the is seeking what we have a Christians – love, peace and…. Oh yeah….. love!! With a slight change to some secular they very easily become Christian songs – as in the case of Shine.

I covet your prayers for the weekend – even if you are not on the prayer wheel – pray for the team and the pilgrims whenever you get a chance.
