about Emmaus

The Emmaus National Capital Area community is a Christian "fourth day" movement that traces its history to the Catholic Cursillo de Cristianidad (short course in Christianity), which started in Spain in the 1950's. By focusing on the individual's personal relationship to Jesus Christ as a model for discipleship, Emmaus National Capital Area offers weekend gatherings to help church leaders to grow spiritually by considering their commitment to piety, study and action. In the environment of a secluded campus, "Pilgrims" are formed into small groups to receive a series of inspiring messages encompassing the Christian life. Priorities, A Priesthood of All Believers, Christian Action, and Means of Grace are but a few of the fifteen talks delivered by lay-persons and clergy. After each talk is a small group discussion or other activity, helping the attendee to reflect upon his or her life in the grace of God. Other exciting and fun activities round out the weekend and help all Pilgrims to understand that God loves them and calls them into discipleship.
